Entrepreneurship for the Hearing Impaired
Although most people who suffer from loss of hearing are physically and mentally capable of performing responsibilities and tasks that people with better hearing can, they are often mistreated in their workplace as many people tend to treat individuals with such disability as stupid or ignorant. Even with the great effort of many health organizations and specialists to treat health conditions that may result to the loss of hearing, the majority of the hearing impaired population can just rely on the use of hearing aids and other hearing devices that can amplify the sounds they hear.
Many hearing impaired individuals experience low self-esteem. This is due to the fact that although hearing impairment is quite common especially at old age, the society has the tendency to discriminate people with disability. This is one of the reasons why many hearing impaired individuals find it difficult to get hired for a position they are applying for. Aside from purchasing effective hearingaids that can help one perform better in a workplace, another way hearing impaired individuals can earn money is by starting their own business. As starting a business may be favorable for hearing impaired individuals because they become less susceptible to workplace harassment, on the job discrimination and other ill treatment from people with less understanding about their condition, a considerable percentage of hearing impaired population ends up venturing into the world of trade and entrepreneurship.
Many organizations support auditory challenged individuals who would want to start their own businesses. These organizations often launch campaigns not only for equal work opportunities but also for the awareness and better understanding of hearing impairment. Some of these organizations have support groups and seminars for those auditory challenged who want to land a job or start a business.
